The Ch.E® is accessible to any graduate and can be completed in approximately 6 months, while the CFA typically requires three years and demands extensive finance work experience for charterholder status.

A typical path starts with a graduate degree in economics, engineering or science, followed by the Chartered Economist® Level 1 qualification and then the Chartered Energy Economist (Ch.E.E.®) specialist track. Roles include Energy Risk Analyst, Energy Policy Consultant, Renewable Energy Economist, and positions with government energy ministries, power sector companies and ESG-focused investment funds.
Yes. Postgraduate degree holders in economics (MA, MSc, M.Phil or equivalent) may pursue the specialist certification tracks directly, skipping the Level 1 Chartered Economist® examination. This makes the programme an efficient route for economics graduates who want professional recognition without repeating foundational content they have already studied. Undergraduate graduates from any stream first complete the Ch.E® Level 1 before selecting a specialist track.
The Ch.E® programme is self-paced and online, typically completed in approximately 6 months. Registration is Rs. 29,000 + GST for Indian residents (USD 1,000 for overseas candidates). The Level 1 exam fee is Rs. 3,000 + GST, and specialist exam fees are Rs. 10,000 + GST. Exams are conducted at Pearson VUE's 5,000+ test centres worldwide on the 10th-20th of each month - 115 minutes, 55 questions, 50% to pass, no negative marking.
